The Inner Work of YOU – Course Overview

Welcome to The Inner Work of YOU. In creating this course, I have pulled together a series of exercises meant to guide you into deeper awareness, insights and perspectives about yourself and the uniqueness and importance of your life. My hope is that by the end of the course, you will feel differently on the inside – you will develop a more solid base of grounded self-knowledge, self-trust and clarity about what is true for you. And my biggest wish is that you will fall in love with yourself and your life.

The Inner Work of YOU unfolds over four phases. It includes home self-reflection exercises, plus a total of 5 hours of experiential therapy. The home exercises include journalling prompts, specific assessments, assignments and suggested art projects. The activities build on each other over the four phases. It is recommended that you set aside a minimum of 35 hours for the home assignments, however you can put as much effort and depth into the work as you like. The course is self-paced and can take as long as you wish. You will be directed to book the therapy sessions at specific points along the way. All of the at-home work you do is confidential to you. You can share summaries of what you are learning during your therapy sessions, but the deep dive work you will be doing is not for an audience. It is for you to dig into what is true and honest for you, way deep inside. From there, you can decide with whom to share what you are learning.

During the Phase One, you will be guided to assess how you are viewing your current life satisfaction from multiple perspectives. This phase is a baseline snapshot of where you are at now. For example, some of the areas include how you are viewing your strengths, struggles, life balance, goals, wellness, relationships, nervous system and values.

During Phase Two, you will look at your life story. This phase takes the most time, as you will be exploring your life events, your family system, your roles, and your life themes. You will uncover strategies that you have developed that may or may not be serving you. You will be guided to connect with the parts of you that may have been hidden or wounded. During this phase you will have your first two therapy sessions which include some inner child work and re-parenting work.

In Phase Three, you will be working with your ego, your shadow, your inner critic and saboteurs. You will examine regrets you might have. Your third therapy session will help you to build a different, more helpful, co-operative relationship with your inner critic. From there you will reassess your beliefs and the messages you have been giving yourself, and do a self-forgiveness exercise. You will make commitments about your self-talk and how you will handle your emotional triggers going forward. The fourth therapy session is about resolving a relationship struggle with anyone in your life, past or present.

Phase Four integrates the work you have done thus far. You will re-frame your life story from a new perspective and reflect on what meaning and purpose your life has for you. There are several different exercises aimed at helping you to envision your future and commit to your present moments. There is a special celebratory assignment for your final therapy session.

Developing new self-understanding is powerful. It gives you an expanded platform from which to choose the next steps on your life path. The Inner Work of YOU is meant to open doors for you to deeply appreciate how much choice and power you have, regardless of circumstances.
